With its 47,781 inhabitants, the municipality of Châteauguay is going through a major transformation.
An impressive number of projects, from economic and environmental plans to social, cultural and tourism projects, are in the exploratory phase or already underway.
In addition to its existing Cultural Centre and Nautical Centre, the city of Châteauguay acquired a new treasure in 2011 with its purchase of the knoll of Saint-Bernard Island, with its manor and surrounding buildings, from the “Grey Nuns” religious institute that had owned it for more than 250 years.
This purchase grew out of a clear desire on the part of the community, and brings the entirety of Saint-Bernard Island under municipal protection.
The island had already been home for many years to the Marguerite-D’Youville wildlife reserve, a paradise for ornithologists and nature lovers from Châteauguay and beyond.
Now more than ever, Châteauguay is getting ready for the future!
