Saint Joseph’s Oratory




With two million visitors each year, Saint Joseph’s Oratory of Mount Royal is Montréal’s most visited site. Tourists, pilgrims, music lovers and the Catholic faithful come to attend masses at this iconic location, the third-largest Catholic basilica in the world.


This spiritual crossroads is also a symbol of a dream and an ambition, of perseverance and the exceptional devotion of one man: Brother André.

Brother André’s heart

It was Monsignor Georges Gauthier, archbishop of Montréal, who requested that Brother André’s heart be preserved, in accordance with a custom dating back to the Middle Ages by which the hearts of important people were kept as a sign of admiration and appreciation.
