A city of murals

You’ve seen them on street corners, in alleyways, at the entrance to neighbourhoods like Chinatown, or even from Mount Royal, like the one created in memory of Leonard Cohen. But did you know that the city is home to over 100 murals like these?

Driven by the efforts of city residents, businesses, community organizations or through the City of Montréal’s mural art program with the Ville-Marie borough, these murals help to improve the quality of life in the city, increase residents’ access to arts and culture, encourage citizen involvement, maintain and beautify the city, and support and highlight the creative work of local and international artists. Start looking out for these modern artworks — just look up as you’re walking, and you’ll discover some astonishing, inspiring and occasionally disturbing creations.
